Kirkwood sanitation worker swoops in to save woman

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 09:12:58 GMT

KIRKWOOD -- People often talk about how brave police officers and firemen are, so it's easy to forget about the hardworking civilian workers who keep a city running smoothly. Jerry Redmond, who has worked as a sanitation worker for the City of Kirkwood for many years, was recently thanked in a moving letter.Dearest Mr. Redmond,You, sir, are my hero! Really! Last month, you delivered a trash dumpster to my sister's house off of Fillmore Lane. After you turned to return to the lane, I turned to go back to the house, tripped on something and fell on my face. As I cried out in pain, you swooped in like an angel sent from God.You helped me up, saying that I needed to get to the emergency room. You helped me into the house and to the kitchen sink where you wet paper towels to wash my face. You helped me to the sofa to lay down and got me an ice pack for my bleeding and bruised face. You even made conversation with me so that I didn't pass out. (I clearly remember this, because you told me t...

LT Garett Bolles couldn’t protect Russell Wilson after 2022 injury and it made him angry: “I’m hungrier than ever”

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 09:12:58 GMT

Left tackles are tasked with being protectors and Garett Bolles is just that when it comes to his quarterback. That’s what made 2022 so difficult for the Broncos veteran. As Russell Wilson was harassed by defensive opponents, sacked 55 times, hurt twice and struggled to find his footing with a new franchise and city, Bolles could only watch. As the public discourse pile-on stacked up on Wilson through each viral moment and his roughest season as a professional, Bolles couldn’t anchor down, get his hands in position and stop the oncoming rush.“It’s like a forest fire,” Bolles said of the torrent of criticism toward Wilson last year. “It starts in one corner and then the wind blows, it just blows all over and burns thousands and thousands of acres. That’s pretty much what happened.”Though criticism of Wilson’s on-field performance – and the Broncos’ historically poor offense – was warranted, certainly the discourse also featured plenty of hot air.Bolles said Thursday he was “angry”...

Opinion: Capitol protest was a feckless and bizarrely racialized attack on Coloradans’ rights

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 09:12:58 GMT

A group of more than 1,000 gathered at the Colorado Capitol to demand the governor ban motor vehicles and buy back the machines that killed nearly 43,000 people around the country last year.Maybe I got that wrong. They demanded Gov. Jared Polis ban fast food and buy back the French fries that killed nearly 280,000 obese people. Or was it the couches and large-screen televisions that caused them to not exercise?Actually, the activists wanted to ban syringes that killed 106,000 people from overdoses. Or was it the bottles of alcohol that killed 104,000 people? The tobacco plants that killed nearly half a million?Vehicles, food, furniture, and drugs were the culprits responsible for much of the top ten leading causes of death — disease and accidents — if you don’t believe in human agency, that is.And yet, which inanimate object did the activist group Here 4 the Kids target this week for criminalization? They want to ban all firearms and quash the right to self-protection enshrined...

Letters: Showing real love for the Denver Nuggets

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 09:12:58 GMT

Showing real love for the NuggetsEvery team that has hoisted the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy has earned it. First, a team must slog through an 82-game schedule, then win 16 more games in the NBA Playoffs while playing the league’s best teams, stocked with the best players. From 2000-2022, the overall number 1 seeds have only won seven championships. Proof that winning a title extracts blood, sweat, tears, and toil from the victor.Prior to the playoffs, many basketball observers believed the Phoenix Suns would advance to the NBA Finals. In 47 regular season games, Kevin Durant averaged 29.1 ppg, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists by shooting 56.0 % from the field, 40.4% on threes’, and 91.9 % on free throws. In the playoffs, Devin Booker scorched the Nuggets, averaging 30.8 ppg, 7.8 assists, and shooting a torrid 56.9 % from the field and 54.8% on threes. Nevertheless, the Nuggets won in six games, clinching the series in Phoenix, 125-100.The valiant efforts of Anthony Davis and LeBro...

A yellow flag-level two advisory was issued, urging travelers headed to the top Caribbean hotspot to "exercise increased caution."Americans still wanting to travel to the island should consider staying in resorts, as they are likely safer and "tend to be better policed than urban areas like Santo Domingo," according to the State Department's advisory. SAN FRANCISCO — A San Mateo man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for sharing a video of himself sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy, court records show.Christian Guardado, 26, was sentenced in mid-May by U.S. District Judge James Donato. Guardado has been in jail for two years on federal charges of child pornography distribution, and pleaded guilty in June 2022.Prosecutors described Guardado as a “predator” with “a penchant for exploiting underage boys through hands-on sexual abuse and over the Internet,” who shared the video in question with at least seven other people. They wrote in court papers that he admitted to vacationing in Spain because he wanted to visit an area with a lower age of consent than in the United States.“Guardado’s cell phone and Snapchat account contained numerous child pornography images and videos, some of them filmed by Guardado himself, and depicting suspected minor victims engaged in sexually explicit conduct ...

For Republican rivals, an unhappy task: Defend the man dominating them in the polls

Published Thu, 06 Mar 2025 09:12:58 GMT

In the topsy-turvy world of 2024 Republican politics, rivals of Donald Trump had been bracing for weeks for his second indictment with more dread than any sense of opportunity. After years of successive scandals, the immediate instincts of so many Republican voters are thoroughly ingrained. They snap to Trump’s defense, no matter how outrageous the charges are or who is making them — Democrats, the news media, local prosecutors or, now, federal ones. Donations surged after Trump’s first indictment in New York. And he consolidated support in the polls.Even prominent Republicans eager for the party to cast aside Trump in 2024 were concerned ahead of the indictment. They have long been exasperated by the immunity of Trump’s base to almost any attack or argument, swarming to neutralize any perceived political threat almost by habit.“There’s a lot of folks who just don’t buy any of it,” Gov. Chris Sununu, R-N.H., who announced this week that he would not run for president in 2024, said in...

The Hotline is delighted to provide Pac-12 fans with a weekly dive into the recruiting process through the eyes and ears of Brandon Huffman, the Seattle-based national recruiting editor for 247Sports.The following report was provided to the Hotline on June 7 …It has long been stated that the Pac-12 must retain the best high school players in its footprint. That necessity has never been more glaring than after the 2023 NFL Draft, when the top two picks were from Southern California but played for Alabama (Bryce Young) and Ohio State (CJ Stroud) instead of Pac-12 schools. With the conference in transition — USC and UCLA are joining the Big Ten next summer — the following five defensive prospects in the high school class of 2024 are critically important to the Pac-12’s recruiting fortunes.(For the top offensive recruits in the class, go here.)1.
