Div. 3-5 boys basketball preview: Plenty of contenders for Div. 3 crown

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 16:48:27 GMT

Archbishop Williams moving to Div. 2 after winning the Div. 3 state title last year leaves a void that many are looking to fill.A good place to start is perennial contender St. Mary’s (Lynn). J.J. Martinez and Jake Fortier comprise one of the better backcourts around, while 6-foot-5 Donel Mutombo provides an interior presence. Down the road a bit from St. Mary’s, Lynn Classical might be ready to make some noise as the solid backcourt of Marvin Avery Jr. and Almina Gerado are back.A team capable of making some serious noise is Hugh Coleman’s Charlestown squad. A semifinalist in Div. 2 last year, the Townies have to be considered one of the favorites as Jaylen Hunter-Coleman and Jaylin Williams-Crawford return along with forward Trevari Andrews.Old Rochester will lean on players such as forwards Robert Spenard, John Butler and Chase Besancon.
