INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Jeff Gordon remembers standing along the fence of pit lane at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as a child, hoping that his hero Rick Mears would walk past and give the aspiring young driver an autograph. As he grew older, Gordon dreamed of following in Mears’ footsteps and driving in the Indianapolis 500. His path ultimately led him toward stock cars, where the NASCAR Hall of Famer built one of the best resumés in the history of the sport. Now, eight years after retiring as a driver, Gordon has found his way back to the speedway.He was part of the Hendrick Motorsports entourage that arrived Thursday with Kyle Larson, who started the immersion process to prepare for the Indy 500 in 2024. DENVER (KDVR) -- Denver used to be close to the top of the nation's list of most moved-to cities. It wasn't in the top 15 though last summer. The U.S. Census Bureau released population estimates for metro and micro statistical areas as of July 1, 2022. This period of time was one of population shifting, with many people moving away from urban cores and into satellite cities and communities, particularly in Western and Sunbelt cities. Severe storm threat for Denver area During that time, people first fled Denver and then re-entered. From July 1, 2020 to July 1, 2021, the city's population fell 0.87%, or about 6,200 people. The year after, the trend reversed, though slightly. Denver's population grew 0.27% over the next summer, or just over 1,900 people. A good deed gone wrong ended with a beating in Miami’s Brickell City Centre.A man said he found a cellphone at the high-end shopping center on Wednesday and thought he made the right call when he handed it over to security.But that’s when things took a terrifying turn.When the victim found the phone, he decided to turn it over to the mall’s lost and found. He was then accused of stealing the phone and was attacked. “He started punching me in my face over and over and over again,” the victim said. The victim now has the injuries to prove it. He spoke with 7News on Thursday about the ordeal.“I have a bruise on my knee, I have a bruise on my back as well, I have a bruise right here,” the victim said. He also has a swollen right eye. A Massachusetts General Hospital employee is facing charges after allegedly bringing a rifle to work, according to Boston police. Police got a call Wednesday night regarding a person in distress on hospital property. A police report filed after the incident later said a hospital security officer was able to reach out to the suspect, who investigators said had the rifle covered with a shower curtain. In a statement, the hospital said no patients were affected and the facility “remained open and operating normally.”“We appreciate the quick actions of all involved including our colleagues and the Boston Police Department,” the hospital said. A mother in Somerville is thanking a police officer after the officer saved her baby’s life Thursday morning.Officer Thomas Lambert was nearby when he heard there was a child in danger. Hours after the rescue, both Lambert and the child’s mother spoke to 7NEWS.“I couldn’t see him but I appreciate all the help that everybody gave because then, he wouldn’t be here right now,” the mother, Jenifer Renderos, said.Lambert was on Pearl Street in Somerville working a detail when he said he heard over the radio that a baby was not breathing.
