The results of the April 4 municipal election aren’t certified yet, but the runoff race for the Denver mayor’s office between Kelly Brough and Mike Johnston marched forward Wednesday with a forum where the two candidates agreed with each other plenty but also sought to create some separation.Brough and Johnston met on the University of Denver campus for the event, which was hosted by the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Denver Partnership and the city’s visitors and tourism bureau, Visit Denver.None of the 16 people who ran for Denver mayor earned more than 50% of the vote in the first round of voting. That triggered an instant runoff between the top two vote-getters, Johnston with 24.4% and Brough with 20%, according to unofficial results. The two are seeking to persuade most of the city’s electorate to vote for them in a race that will conclude June 6 and name the city’s first new mayor in more than a decade.Brough appeared to be comfortable...Crews rescue seriously injured paraglider in Riverside County

SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants did not literally fall apart Wednesday, though with injuries to Michael Conforto and Bryce Johnson it might have felt like it, but things started to metaphorically crumble in the sixth inning of their rubber match against the Dodgers.A tied game when Taylor Rogers took over at the start of the sixth, the inning began with four straight free passes, including one on a pitch-clock violation and another on the losing end of a 15-pitch battle, and ended with the Giants in a five-run hole after a big shot by — who else? — Max Muncy, the Giant killer who homered two more times and has done so against San Francisco more times than any other player in the majors since 2018.The Giants lost, 10-5. They dropped two of three to the Dodgers, who won’t visit Oracle Park again until the last home stand of the season. By then, who knows if the Giants will still be in contention, but they have to hope, at least, that it won’t be as dreadful as their first set o...Amador Valley baseball: From six wins last year to serious contenders

DUBLIN — They’ve been two of the Bay Area’s hottest and most surprising baseball teams this spring, with three losses between them entering their game Wednesday.Dublin was coming off a win on Tuesday over reigning North Coast Section Division I champion De La Salle, which had beaten the Gaels five consecutive times dating to 2017.Amador Valley had risen to No. 2 in the latest Bay Area News Group rankings, a stunning turnaround given that the Pleasanton school won just six games last year.Adding to the pregame storyline was Amador Valley pitcher Oliver de la Torre, a Cal-bound senior who missed last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. His presence this season is a big reason Amador Valley has doubled its 2022 win total after just 13 games, the 12th win coming Wednesday as de la Torre pitched six strong innings in a 7-1 victory on the road over sixth-ranked Dublin in East Bay Athletic League play.Amador Valley gave its pitcher all the runs he’d need in the thir...Prep baseball: No. 1 Valley Christian rallies late to overtake Bellarmine

SAN JOSE — Bellarmine scored two runs in the top of the first inning and almost made them stand up. But Valley Christian, the No. 1 ranked team in the Bay Area News Group’s Top 20, scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out a 5-2 victory WednesdayThe Warriors trailed 2-1 heading into the sixth. Bellarmine starter Wade Mountz got the first out before walking Brock Kettelsen on a 3-2 pitch and giving up a single to center by Jordan Ortiz. Bellarmine coach Nate Sutton went to his bullpen then, bringing in Paul Montgomery with a 1-0 count on Jacob Hudson.Montgomery and Mountz are Bellarmine’s two top pitchers. Montgomery comes in from the side with a motion that can be problematic for right-handed batters. But Hudson, the 2022 West Catholic Athletic League MVP, doubled to right-center, bringing in both runners and giving his team a 3-2 lead.“We were expecting to see him earlier in the week so we were practicing against that sinker a little bit,”...Why have there been no updates in the Bob Lee investigation?
