Busload of Books tours lands in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS - The husband and wife illustrator/author/business team duo Matthew Swanson and Robbi Behr, are currently on their yearlong Busload of Books tours, visiting Title 1 schools in all 50 states giving away 25,000 books.They will also be visiting a Native American reservation along the way. They're halfway through their exciting 50+ date tour, which will end in Alaska this summer. The stories they have of meeting children and teachers will truly tug at your heartstrings. They came to a Ferguson Central Primary School on March 14 and 15, and they've partnered with First Book and Build-A-Bear to give away an additional 125,000 books by more authors to Title 1 educators. Denver chef and owner of Mexican food trendsetter La Diabla Jose Avila is bringing traditional insect-based meals to the city. For $50 patrons can sample a variety of offerings at the nondescript restaurant where Avila has wowed palettes with his famous posole negra and wide variety of tacos. A woman was killed and a man riding in the passenger seat of a Mazda was in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon that forced the closure of East Jewell Avenue in Aurora for nearly two hours.It was the ninth traffic-related fatality in Aurora this year, police said in a news statement posted on Twitter.The crash happened where East Jewell Avenue meets the E-470 beltway. The Mazda was turning left from the northbound E-470 exit ramp onto East Jewell — in front of a Ford F-150 pickup moving eastward on Jewell, police said. Police and paramedics at the scene evaluated the man at the scene but he was not hospitalized.Names weren’t released. The Arapahoe County Coroner is expected to identify the woman. Amid an onslaught of winter storms that have battered Southern California, the Orange County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday declared a local state of emergency. The declaration comes as officials are particularly concerned about the neighborhood of Dover Shores in Newport Beach where at least one home is dangerously close to sliding into the Back Bay and endangering the stability of the entire block. “We have homes that are teetering on falling down into the Back Bay off of the hillside,” Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley told KTLA.
