Matthew Yglesias: A centrist rebellion is what Congress needs

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 14:11:19 GMT

If there’s one thing everyone in the House of Representatives can agree on these days, it’s that they are mad.The most radical House Republicans are angry that former Speaker Kevin McCarthy didn’t deliver on all the promises they extorted from him to give him the job in the first place. "So I thought I'd give it a shot." $8 million in state funds headed for the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge Kueny says he had an idea the float was going to be successful within the first five minutes."Once we got underway, we got out of the city, passed the bridges and some of the more active barges," Kueny said. "And once we got to that, I was like, ‘Oh, I thought this is actually doable.’"This dream of being a world record holder began after seeing the record be broken just last year. Kueny says while he knew he wanted to do it, there weren't very many good ways to prepare."I workout regularly, but you don't really train for rowing in a pumpkin," Kueny said. "So a lot of it is just deciding you're going to do it and stick...

Are you smarter about ecosystems than a wildlife specialist with a biology degree and 25 years of experience in the field? What are you willing to bet? Most of us have enough self-awareness to refuse that wager but not a group of activists that is willing to gamble the health and vitality of Colorado’s ecology. These activists believe the average Coloradan knows more about animal management than everyone at Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).The group — named  Cats Aren’t Trophies (CATs) — intends to place an initiative to ban hunting of mountain lions and bobcat trapping on the 2024 ballot. If successful, they will circumvent CPW and its commissioners and the Colorado legislature which ha...
