By EDDIE PELLS | Associated PressDENVER — The email, addressed to the 13-year-old swimmer from the U.S. Center for SafeSport, came out of the blue. “Between approximately 2019 and 2022, you allegedly engaged in a pattern of behavior which constitutes Sexual Misconduct,” it read, with both final words capitalized. That was in April 2022. It took three months for the 8th grader to learn what the accusations were: A claim he had slapped another teammate on the butt in a locker room 10 months earlier, in June 2021.More than 20 months later, the case remains open, even after local police in the town 40 miles north of Denver investigated and dismissed it within weeks. Now 16 and a high school sophomore, the teen’s promising swimming career has been plunged into uncertainty by the temporary sanctions imposed by SafeSport — and the hard-to-escape taint of presumed guilt as the case drags on.FILE – U.S. Center for SafeSport CEO Ju’Riese Colón testifies during The Commission on the State of U...Plagiarism charges downed Harvard’s president. NEW YORK (AP) — Stock are slipping again on Wednesday as Wall Street’s slow start to 2024 carries into a second day.The S&P 500 was 0.6% lower in morning trading, though still within 2% of its record set exactly two years ago. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 206 points, or 0.5%, as of 10:30 a.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 0.9% lower. Some of last year’s biggest winners were again giving up some of their gains. Tesla fell 4.4% after soaring nearly 102% last year, for example. It and the other six “Magnificent 7” Big Tech stocks responsible for the majority of Wall Street’s returns last year have regressed some following their tremendous runs. The question hanging over the market is whether all the enthusiasm that helped stocks broadly rally for nine straight weeks into the start of this year was warranted. It was built on expectations that inflation has cooled enough for the Federal Reserve to not only halt its hikes to interest rates but to cut them sever...Las identidades de decenas de personas vinculadas a Jeffrey Epstein sean reveladas pronto. PARIS — France’s far-right National Rally says a new report on Russian interference in French democracy is part of a “cabal” against the movement, after a Washington Post investigation revealed Moscow’s efforts to promote “political discord” in France and undermine support for Ukraine through “political figures and social media accounts.”“Let’s be serious, this is a cabal,” National Rally MP and spokesperson Laurent Jacobelli said in a radio interview on Tuesday, claiming the newspaper’s report, which quotes Kremlin documents, insufficiently lists its sources and unfairly draws ties between Russian troll farms and France’s main far-right political force.“This is more akin to gratuitous accusations than journalistic work,” he added. The WaPo investigation says Kremlin strategists were tasked with delivering talking points to unnamed political figures to stress the alleged negative consequences of...New antibiotic uses novel method to target deadly drug-resistant bacteria, study says
